Got to go to the Renaissance Festival yesterday - me, Oscen, youngest son and his friend. Weather was gorgeous and we had a great time just walking around and enjoying the sights and sounds. It was a company-sponsored event, so the chartered bus ride plus the ticket to get in was $5 per person - what a bargain! Kid had his cellphone so they were able to wander on their own and not be tied to the parental units.

One of the musical groups was really good and they had a male belly dancer who balanced 2 cutlass swords on his head while he danced - it was great! Here he is:

Wow, what a sight...green trees and sunshine, people in short sleeves. I bet nobody makes fun of that male belly dancer!
Ren fests are lots of fun. When I was living in Germany, I went to the Kaltenberger Ritterturnier fest. They have an outstanding jousting show. If you are ever near Munich in July, GO! Here's there website.

The Texas Ren Fest has been going on for 34 years now (1974-2008). I remember going in 1984 when I was 7 months pregnant with DS #1 and it wasn't my first time there so I must have gone in the late 70's before moving to Wyoming. My Dad went in the 70's when it was a bunch of canopies surrounded by mud (it rains a lot here in October) with porta potties.

For years it was only in Oct and now it has been extended to 2 months - Oct and Nov - which are great months here in the steamy south for outdoor festivals. Still can be a bit hot in early October for the costumes.

Now it has permanent buildings and real terlets and has cobblestones around the shops at least. There is a chapel that only has a wooden frame and it covered in vines for the "walls" - just beautiful!

I love the atmosphere of all the artisans.......

Ooops. I'd better find a hiding spot so the spelling police don't get me.

What an impressive show! Oscen would love it but we would have to hit the lottery to afford the trip.
