That is an excellent image.
I will work it into a regrid in the next couple of days.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 04-25-2016

"That is an excellent image."

In a way, that's ironic,
because I had a "better" Metal/bump-map version
that GIMP wouldn't export back to ChaosPro in the
final form. Ninja

The surface regions around a 3D Mand. show a lot of unexpected
looping rope-like structures rising out of the main set at close, grazing ranges.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Vianova - 04-25-2016

...
the problem with failing in grid replicating is that it takes forever to resign to failure

failed on a septagon and an enneagon

ressurrected a partial hexagon out of this one, and figured I may as well show it,
after all that trouble

I ran into an older regrid and touched it up a bit.
I have no idea where it came from, might be one of yours.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 04-29-2016

That's pretty fascinating,
and I wish you can recall the source
because I've seen the same sort of piping/alembic
sort of structures used in Menger Sponge-architectures
to great effect.
I've got another I just finished...

Mainly conventional......

That is good stuff, looks like Live Fractal Matter on another planet in another dimension.

I tried a recolorization and a different scheme.

It might need some brightening.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 05-01-2016

If by "brightening" you mean more contrast...
that may be, or else try making the darkest tones blacker?
The yellow->orange shading in middle area worked well.

I found 2 more GIMP filters that might prove interesting...
>Droste effect (see Escher) might be especially interesting with Lyapunov fractals;
>rippled glass, which might be useful along with a metallic effect.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 05-01-2016

OK...this is a previous neonized Lyapunov inversion
run through a 10 iteration Droste zoom...
almost hard to tell the difference......

Compare the above Droste version with the original...

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 05-01-2016

The closest comparison to the Droste effect, besides certain Escher drawings,
are the patterns caused by video feedback, at least in the initial stages...

Yea ... that is just great stuff.
Imagine it moving with color and texture flowing.
Even the tiny detail came out sharp.
Outstanding.
I will work it into a regrid soon.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 05-03-2016

V...re that Weird golden image above...
I did apply a slight bump mapping to it,
in addition to an "Illusion" filter which added
the psychedelic effects.
Regarding why I use bump mapping
is actually why it's a GIMP plugin.
They originally made it to act
as a way of making an embossing effect
for letters and signs, etc.
But I didn't know that,
and I thought it was for a kind of "impasto"
3D painting effect...and I still think it has that use.

first attempt at the gold image.
Some of the effects you mention may over emphasize themselves in the center of this one.
I will try a geometry grid in a couple of days.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 05-04-2016

To me your image looks best magnified to the windows max
so the subtle texture is brought out
and yet not at all look pixelated/fuzzy.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 05-05-2016

If you recall that recent trilateral Amazingbox,
this is the same formula except that I slightly reduced
the bailout value of the main formula
and this had the unexpected effect of rendering it
into a spherical shape.
Was too burnt out to try another palette......

After further consideration Reefer
I decided to rotate the sphere 180......

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 05-05-2016

This is the original trilateral amazingbox......

This is a plot at the Wolfram site called Euler's Number Triangle.
In the coloring formula of the above fractal images is an exponent base labeled Euler's Number.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Vianova - 05-06-2016

Euler's number is 2.718281828 in 10 decimals.
It's a logarithmic function constant.

[Image: CALCULATING_EULER_S_NUMBER_E_WITH_BIGDEC...F000F9.PNG]

The last amazingbox is really good.
I have to magnify it to 250% to see it well in detail.

huge image ... could have taken one more sharpening step.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 05-06-2016

OK...this might be too detailed some places,
but I wanted to do more with unsharp masking
and I liked the blue and gold colors......

The GIMP version at 1600X1200 is a lot sharper.
Another thing is that the apparent horizontal or vertical seams
in these sphere amazingbox result from the formula,
though I don't know if they can be controlled in any way.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 05-07-2016

V...thanx for that info re Euler's number.
The part of the amazingbox formula in question
apparently refers to e^x (or Napier's Number).
Having chosen Euler's Number as the exponent base,
That left me with a parameter labeled enigmatically "Darkness(smooths)".
I'm concluding the parameter is "x", and the smoothing derives from
what e becomes when raised to a negative power.
"Darkness" then refers to the negative number line...with light being the positive direction.

...I need to go back to the drawing board......

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 05-07-2016

I rotated the sphere 90 deg. and zoomed...

It rapidly is blurry at high mag.
I think I'll forgo anti-antialiasing from now on,
since I can't think of any other cause.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Vianova - 05-08-2016

Looks like artifacts of shredded alien gold debris in a ten million year old tomb.
Very interesting.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 05-09-2016

OK...these next 2 before/after comparisons have more significance, technically-wise.
Lok at this previous previous normal image...

Now compare it to a very restrained bump map version.
As I was hoping, the detailed parts only show a raised relief effect...

The background smoke effect is nice.
That flood fill effect also did not leave the borders of the object with the shadow outlines.
The object appears almost a bit translucent.
it will be a few days before I can attrempt another regrid.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 05-10-2016

A "strange attractor" of smoke,
if it were also enhanced through bump or height mapping (even possible?)...
could be [Image: damned.gif] ......
sorta like those Scythian bongs.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 05-11-2016

Trying different metal approach...

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 05-13-2016

Yet another attempt to activate any alien implanted gold locating instincts...

Also, it seems that the black object border effect you were getting
was due to the fog feature in ChaosPro.
The last time I used fog was with GIMP,
and you said it didn't happen then.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Vianova - 05-13-2016

...
That is quite superb actually, but the resolution suffers in the congestion of detail.
Once in a while when I take one of these images with low res,
in my programs the sharpening of the image actually improves the detail but only once in a while.
I am a bit puzzled by that ... why one image will improve and another won't.
What you need is a larger template for the original image.
There must be program limitations that are influencing image size in what you use.
For instance if that image were 50% larger with slightly better resolution,
it would be more apt to be able to regrid with detail.
There is a small section in center left with good detail
that I could extract and replicate to a large image.
I will try it real quick.
...

...
I had to repair a splice and did that badly.
two appendages are seen that are missing in areas of perimeter replication as well,
not certain how I failed that ...
I tried to do this too quickly ... test  pattern

this was replicated from a 350 by 425 pixel section of your image

Aside from slower rendering speed, ChaosPro has had no problem
with a given resolution yet, so far up to 3200X2400,
but for some while I've been using 1600X1200.
The res. stays the same before /after it goes thru GIMP
and then exported back to ChaosPro.
Then it goes to PhotoBucket where it is reduced to 1024X768,
which is obtained by cropping, I think.
From there, it winds up at THM
where it is also limited to 1024X768.
I think troubleshooting this resolution conundrum
would be to first eliminate GIMP from the process,
since any number of things can happen there.

The only thing notable about this next is that
it's a straight tunnel in the side of a mandelbulb that seemingly goes on forever...
