It's loading now in imgur,
and taking a very very long time.
I made it too large,
so this is all of the octagonal form available.

well dang ... looks like a piece got left in there near the top ...
this one may not be up too long,
itza looksee then history

Lyapunov in blue?
the ... eye lids ...  lens encasing is pretty nifty.
the central gold area around the eye almost looks like you can touch it and feel it.
nice overlays

Simulated Sonic Synaesthesia...

"Lyapunov in blue?"

That's due to what happened after applying a "Difference Clouds" filter.
Blue is the complement of yellow.

I forgot...the key thing about the above image
was rendering the trumpet horn as a floating selection
allowing it to be cut/dragged/pasted in position above the background Lyapunov Inversion.
The final layer of blobs, etc. was conveniently rendered and positioned from the same Lyapunov.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 03-28-2017

Central theme part of an earlier image.
Background from 7 fog layers desaturated, etc, etc...

the "trumpet" is the entire gold section or the inner eye?

the "final layer of blobs", --- etc,

does that include the black lyapunov curvilinear extensions overlaying the the gold?

...

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 03-28-2017

The trumpet is the entire gold section.
It is the pole of a boxed m'bulb inversion
which opened the inner aperture surrounding
the central Lyapunov as well as giving it a funnel shape.
Look at the same Lyapunov before the added layer
and see the complete forms,
of which the "extensions" and blobs
were the last remnants.
The Lyapupov would have looked better turned 90 deg
as well as the layer over the trumpet.

I always like Lyapunov material.

happened to browse through very old fast water creek images that were manipulated,
and of course got carried away trying to improve one.
Color is not bright enough,
and magnifying beyond what is in the large image link won't help it.
the largest central reserve is overmanipulated,
but overall it is an interesting effect.
Old stuff, I call these:

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 03-31-2017

Hmm2 ...I've read that Lyupanov made a lot of studies of viscous fluids
and probably have a connection to those fractals.
I think I might try placing a Lyupanov layer either over or within
a similar shaped flow.
Using a "color to alpha" filter it could be made to appear as a directing force.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 04-04-2017

Turbulence/cloud fractals are becoming more fascinating than just fog...

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Vianova - 04-05-2017

That one definitely has to go to about 400%.
very unusual.
At first you think it is pixellating and losing coherence...
then, it looks a similar to super enhanced and colorized Pulto surface features.

When I get some time I will try something with that.

your last one would not work for me,
so i tried a just previous texture ... I made it too congested,
and sharpening didn't help much.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 04-07-2017

Another technique that might make your constructions easier
would be in seamless tiling of images,
but I don't know if it allows other than rectangular images.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Vianova - 04-07-2017

...
I am uncertain of what seamless tiling means.
The construction of that octagon is really no harder than any octagon.
I should have used a larger sized image of your original.
Just now looking at the super large image at my link,
it is a disappointment altogether and for some reason that one just would not allow splice lines
to meld together invisibly.
maybe try something else
...

...
I am not getting the high res results in imgur,
but here it is, sure looked good in my home image program.

It looks good here at 400% after all, good.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 04-08-2017

I've been using png files whenever possible.
Re..."seamless tiling"...I only saw a good example of what it does.
It seems to bend the image increasingly from the middle,
so...I guess...the borders match...or something......

How bizarre...I was experimenting today with the same image as your last
as a variable transparency over another background but it got screwed up.
That's interesting how you got the Lyapunov outer structure to line up in a pentagon.

Here's a redo of an early clouds image instead...

I was going to use rhis as a background...

Alignment of specific forms to replicate in a variety of flip mirror symmetries,
is the actual art form in that one has to envision the result while creating.
Surely also one can create a huge template of flip mirror symmetries,
rotate it a bit, and take a new splice.
the geometry adaptation is the last step in the process.
I was the first to create the geometry replications of a fractal many years ago,
and now a few others have figured it out to a small degree.
most do not get past a square or a hexagon.
Splicing in foreign fractal material to a new location in the grid often involves making repairs,
to disguise the transfered form perimeter cut,
which will begin to become visually apparent when sharpening the image a few times for resolution.
sometimes the transfer goes very well,
sometimes it fails.
In my last one there, I performed a quick transfer of fractal material to a new location in the grid.
It really added a lot to the overall theme,
and the repairs worked great.

so even at 500% you cannot see the transfer cut oval {usually a jagged perimeter edge]

the image below shows the item transfered,
in the rectangular reserve withing the white circle.
the white lines point to it's transfer placement positions.
the balance achieved made a major difference,
but you would have had to see the image without them.

From what you're describing,
I think I've seen A GIMP tool(s)
that might deliver the same effect,
but occasionally you've said something about a "template"
Is that what aligns geometric sections into a polygon?

the geometric section ... the actual slice of geometric pie ... is the template,
so essentialy, yes to your question.

Those last ones are excellent.
I will try one soon.

I was on my way into here tonite to operate on one of your fractals,
and on the way in stopped at comcast email ...
where my whole internet connection was severed for quite awhile.
So I was in old files and found one of your old ones no doubt,
and made it into a wild pentagonal item.

Your recent images are wild and excellent,
especially the last two.
Hope to try them soon, but in the meantime I did this one

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 04-15-2017

Re..posting problem...some sites either won't allow "hot links" or don't like them ?

Lately I've been using a "pixel de-noise" filter
when I've seen sporadic numbers of isolated bright white pixels.
This filter eliminates them w/o affecting anything else...very fast.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 04-16-2017

Re...the above^...the background is a redone cloud/fog texture,
and the large oval section is a portal seen within a Gilgamesh Head/Julia mode Inversion with added Joukowski transform,
with the 3rd layer being a scaled down part of the same formula differently tweaked.
The layer move tool allowed the final layer to be positioned.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 04-18-2017

Reworked a Lyapunov to more fluid forms...1st image
in order to see how it works with a "3D Elevation" filter...2nd image......

If you compare the 2 images,
the last appears cropped...
that's because the 3D elevation filter
introduces a trapezoidal perspective to the entire scene
as well as giving height to given features
and it was necessary to raise the size parameter to cover the trapezoid
to cover otherwise transparent areas
that would post as white,
potentially causing vertigo.
