The symmetry is 16 parts. {360 / 16} = 22.5
The tangent of 22.5 degrees is ... square root two minus One
the cosine
equals
square root of ... tangent 19.47122063 plus 0.5

the Masonic temple star in Philadelphia GML is a 16 point star.

what parameter defined the program to create the 16 parts?
do you choose the 16 n-gon from a list?

It is possible to get a certain n-gon through the "power" number
of a given Juliabulb.

I know I didn't set out to use power 16 for the image in question,
since I had also to take into account the size of the holes opened by the Julia mode.
The first 2 images used around 3 or 4 power because the openings were larger and fewer.

What you said about the Phil. Masonic Temple 
reminded me of what I saw during the eclipse...
I didn't have any glasses so all I saw was it getting dark->light (didn't see any stars).
What was weird is that across the street is a Masonic Temple
and during the totality phase the front door was illuminated
by a ~4x4 foot square of light,
in the middle of which is a small square window.
Everything else was very dark!
Beyond the door, the supernal ray must have illumined...Some Thing!

I've got an idea for making an animated GIF...

The following image is a 16 power Julia.
See how each section is subtly different
from one to the next?
A frame centered over each section 
ought to yield smooth movement of the framed feature.
According to the web, 16 frames is ideal.

also started as a 16 pwr Julia equally precise
before applying FBM and lens/fish-eye distortions.

The resolution looks great right to 500% ,
but I got one of the five symmetry cuts off by a hair.
I can fix that, but leave it be.   
There is very cool undulating 3D relief along the outer perimeter.

the background texturing
uses increased anisotropy 
as per a mention of resulting"snakelike patterns"
in a tutorial......

from your last image,
I tried a septagon -- very difficult, 
especially with no half degrees to choose from in the cuts,
so it was truncated upon one axis to make the symmetries converge.
Must be viewed at high mag 300-400%
