Those masks are great, especially the first one.
Somehow managed a perfect 5000 by 5000 grid without losing any edges.
12 sided figure may be too busy, needs high magnification to view.

.

wow!
the detail and resolution are outstanding all the way to 500%
...

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 09-08-2017

The Goat Horns...Demonic Round Table......

As per astounding resolution...
it must be due to a few filters,
like the ones making shiny metal.
Those features seem to show the highest resolution,
while other regions tend to be more pixilated.

OK...I looked at the above image at 500% mag.
There is an obvious difference between the object and setting...smooth vs pixilated.

I'll think about this as to cause/effect

Your 12-gon also reveals, as you say, overall smoothness at 500%.
At this point I'll have to look at what I did to get the cyan background design......

The colors in this image are due to 4 colored lights
shining on a desaturated grey scale turbulence/noise surface,
thus simulating colors seen by reflection,
using the GIMP metallic filter.
This required far more saturated colored light than usual
but seems to yield a similar effect.
Resolution is satisfactory.

I am not impressed with the octagonal geometry results,
and should have gone to an enneagon with this one.
Nonetheless, check it out in high magnification,
and the edges all around {and the center edges}
make the octagonal outline look like a finely cut card paper for art posters,
that has the fractal image painted on it.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Vianova - 09-12-2017

That is an excellent one.
To work that into replication however takes a lot of extra labor,
because background would have to be replicated extensively,
in order to achieve the angle of splicing I want / need.
I hope to try it in the next few days.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 09-12-2017

The main thing was making these metal beetles,
so I could post a PNG transparent version
so you could use your own bkgd.

That last thing is amazing.

actually I can only use your backgrounds.
I cannot do overlays.
with the metal beetles, you have them pointed to the corners.
I need that area straight up ... so I have to rotate the image perfectly.
so then I have little background to work with on either side of the top points,
and it has to be replicated slowly.
maybe tomorrow night.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 09-13-2017

Hmmm...I thought I detected an overlay effect on an image.

I probably did not explain it right.
I cannot take your image off the white background and transplant it onto a back ground of mine.

This was an extensive rearrangement of background and sectional replications.
I like it, though labor intensive.

excellent resolution at 500%,
it's beautiful, one of my favorite.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 09-15-2017

That looks like the tabletop
for some exotic oriental game.

"I cannot take your image off the white background and transplant it onto a back ground of mine."

My thought is that since it's a png with transparency
the white background will be invisible
when the image is repurposed.

I tried your last one, the fractal impressionist background.
I made too big of an image.
So here is a cut out of the pentagonal reconstruction.

That is excellent, I will try it later tonite.
Looking at it at 400% I notice a series of sawtooth edging on various background shapes,
or with long streched packed lines,
especially in flowing forms along the bottom dark areas,
but also present in the thin edges of linear form in lighter colored background material.
Is that an effect of the specific image program parameters applied,
or is that some kind of image stretch to the point that the programming is unable to compensate?

Ninja ... Doh.........Hmm2
I ...... don't ......know.

Testing is required...eg....especially the "image stretch" hypothesis.
The disturbing possibility of a temporary visual anomaly can't be discounted.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 09-21-2017

OK...I don't have a brain lesion.
The problem was due to a lens effect filter.
I reproduced the problem and even worse artifacts,
like concentric squares!

This next apparently has no such problems...

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Vianova - 09-21-2017

...
you know ... I tried that image two posts back and had fits with it.
worked it for 2 hours.
it just would not cooperate.
for some reason it just would not perfectly accurately splice,
shit kept getting put back together slightly askew,
the symmetry results sucked no matter what i did,
tried to rectify that into a conflaguration of absurdity in excess,
and gave up.

Lol

Cry

Horsepoop

I will take a day off, and look closer at your latest that you post for another attempt.

psychedelic fractal alien mycoplasma-fungi hybrid swarming in self generated oozing spore slime

I especially like the infestation aspect of it.
I can just see that Aussie wildlife nut case .. Steve Irwin,
trying to swim down through the swarmies there,
to that silver one curling around in the lower left of the image,
just before it stings him with a spore barb.

Whip

I always thought that it was unfair,
that the public never got to see the actual film footage of the manta ray attack on Irwin,
when he got nailed in the heart by the barb,
and apparently pulled it out of his chest after he got pulled back into the boat.
I could take the three on the left side and do a replication of some sort perhaps.
I have to think about it and wait for a night when I have sharper energy for focus.

I like the first one on the last selection. Great wave like movement in the object.
It reminds me of polishing jade surfaces and the color and sheen that comes out with oils.
Like this one,
that is suiseki bottom cut for a stand as a wave or mountain form:

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 09-26-2017

The ones I posted were done for testing,
using the basic ChaosPro formula to start with
and then whatever else that came to mind.
The formula was a detail in a 8th power Juliabulb
rendered in a continuous greyscale
with any colors the result of 3 colored lights
reflecting of those surfaces (ie...yellow flanked by red and cyan).

It would look really interesting to run that jade stone through GIMP.

The next image up in a few minutes has similar colors.

If you look at it highly magnified
only the background is smooth.

That's interesting indeed.
Definitely need to advance to 400% to see the detail.
Unusual how the backs of the leaves exhibit the texture,
but not the fronts.

Might have over sharpened this one.

pretty darn good resolutioin at 400% actually,
and going from top center downwards is pretty cool.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 09-30-2017

What I notice is the somewhat concave effect....doesn't really seem oversharpened.

I'm trying out this new Gimp "Detail Enhancing" filter that works on 4 levels of detail depending on size,
coarse, medium, small, and fine.
I don't know how it works but so far
it acts like other anisotropic filters in that increasing it
exaggerates "snakelike" features...as seen in this

Swamp Thing

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Vianova - 10-01-2017

That swamp thing is just ... sick ... vividly nasty is a better description.
Looks like an alien leech in shallow methane sea slime on Titan.

Excellent.

It sits out distinctly from the background in 3D.

RE: 3D MANDLEBROT - Kalter Rauch - 10-01-2017

This is perhaps a more "refined" usage...2nd Power Juliabulb detail......
