Attorney Michael Avenatti faces up to 333 years in prison following a federal grand jury indictment that charged him with stealing millions of dollars both from his clients and from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), prosecutors said.

[*]President Donald Trump made a joke at French President Emmanuel Macron’s expense on Thursday when asked by a French reporter why the United States has a lower unemployment rate.
Trump was touring a Louis Vuitton factory in Texas on Thursday when he was approached by the French reporter.
“You have a very low unemployment rate in the U.S. and we have a very high unemployment rate in France. How come?” the reporter asked the president. (RELATED: September Jobs Report: 136,000 Jobs Added)
“Well, maybe we have a better president than you do,” Trump responded with a sly grin.

Trump and Macron have traditionally had a close relationship, despite occasional jabs between the two, with Macron and the French first lady traveling to the White House last year for an official state visit.
The president stopped by the new Louis Vuitton factory in Johnson County, TX ahead of a planned rally, and participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the French company’s pledge to hire 1,000 American workers.

President Donald Trump said Friday the U.S. will hit back after French President Emmanuel Macron imposed a 3% tax on digital companies like Facebook and Amazon.
“France just put a digital tax on our great American technology companies. If anybody taxes them, it should be their home Country, the USA. We will announce a substantial reciprocal action on Macron’s foolishness shortly. I’ve always said American wine is better than French wine!” Trump wrote Friday on Twitter.

[*]Macron signed the law Wednesday, and the new tax will apply to companies with at least 750 million euros, or about $834 million, in global revenue and a digital revenue of 25 million euros, or roughly $27 million, in France from activities like targeted advertising, reported Bloomberg Tax. Other countries including Austria, Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland and the Czech Republic are reportedly considering levying similar taxes. (RELATED: Trump Loses It On Fox News Over Latest 2020 Poll)
French lawmakers passed the law earlier in July, prompting the U.S. to promise to investigate France for unreasonably discriminating against U.S. businesses.

U.S. companies spoke out against the tax.
“We applaud the Trump Administration for taking decisive action against France and for signaling to all of America’s trading partners that the U.S. government will not acquiesce to tax and trade policies that discriminate against American businesses,” Amazon said according to The Washington Post.
Google called the tax “discriminatory.”

‘C’est Moi’ — Mitt Romney’s Secret Twitter Account Is No Longer A Secret

Republican Utah Sen. Mitt Romney confirmed the existence and eventually the identity of a “lurker” Twitter account Sunday.
The former GOP presidential nominee’s full disclosure came after his published interview with The Atlantic’s McKay Coppins, in which he acknowledged the existence of a secret account he uses “to keep tabs on the political conversation,” according to McKay.
The revelation came during a conversation about President Donald Trump’s Twitter insults:
Quote:“That’s kind of what he does,” Romney said with a shrug, and then got up to retrieve an iPad from his desk. He explained that he uses a secret Twitter account—”What do they call me, a lurker?”—to keep tabs on the political conversation. “I won’t give you the name of it,” he said, but “I’m following 668 people.”
Romney went on to show Coppins several accounts he follows, including athletes, journalists, and comedians.
McKay’s piece led Slate’s Ashley Feinberg to dig in and eventually come up with an account that fit the bill on several levels.

Quote:i *believe* i may have found mitt romney’s secret twitter account https://t.co/SNVUeqbLoY
— Ashley Feinberg (@ashleyfeinberg) October 20, 2019

“Reader, meet Twitter user @qaws9876, otherwise known as PIerre Delecto,” Feinberg wrote.
Feinberg’s article listed several reasons she felt like the account was Romney, including that it’s first follow was Romney’s oldest son, Tagg, “joined shortly thereafter by Glen Johnson, a current politics editor for Boston.com who was firmly on the Romney beat around the time the account was originally created.” Other social media “follows” included a former Romney campaign adviser along with all of Romney’s children and people “you might expect someone like Mitt Romney to follow, including Larry Kudlow, Bill Kristol, and John McCain.
The Slate piece sparked Coppins to ask Romney whether the Slate article was correct. The Utah senator’s response? “C’est moi,” French for “It’s me.” (RELATED: Trump Fires Back At Romney, And He Included A Video)
Coppins then added the following update to his piece:

Quote:(After this story was published, Slate identified a Twitter account using the name Pierre Delecto that seemed to match the senator’s description of his lurker account. When I spoke to Romney on the phone Sunday night, his only response was, “C’est moi.”)
Quote:Just spoke to @MittRomney on the phone, and asked him about Pierre Delecto. His only response: “C’est moi.” Updated my story accordingly: https://t.co/kcfIopokWh
— McKay Coppins (@mckaycoppins) October 21, 2019

The account went to “protected” status shortly after the Slate article was published.
