Wall Street, Banks, and American Foreign Policy
This is my interview with Karen Hudes the Whistleblower from the World Bank. This is a wide ranging discussion covering her time at the World Bank and what led her to blow the whistle on the corruption she found there. In the process her view of the worldwide corruption widened to include governments and the overall monetary system.

We discuss the ‘backwardization’ of gold, the manipulation of the dollar and the need to replace the current fiat system with a gold or asset backed currency and the plans of the cabal to create chaos and institute the NWO.

What next, Mexico and Canada become part of the US?
With Canada, it would end up being a bunch of paper/law work basically since they are similiar in plenty of ways. With Mexico, I cant even begin to imagine where to start there with all the gang violence and corruption. Mexico would probably lose like half its population though haha.

PictureThe Hagmann & Hagmann Report – by Mitch Santell

Helen Clark was the first female Prime Minister in the history of New Zealand. She is both a socialist and a globalist. During the five years and seven months that I lived in New Zealand, she was the prime minister for 2 of those years. Helen Clark was in office for a total of nine years (three full terms).

The gossip in New Zealand was simple, Helen Clark was to go along with the “new world order” which is really the “old world order” and if she did upon exiting her position as New Zealand’s Prime Minister would be appointed into a key position at the United Nations.

Today Helen Clark is “officially”the  Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme. You can read about it: here.

So why is this upsetting me now back in America? Why do I worry about this woman being in this position?

PictureNear the end of 2012, former Prime Minister Helen Clark gave a speech before the New Zealand Parliament. She said something during her talk that just made my jaw drop. Here is what she said:

My working definition of global governance will be that of Lawrence Finkelstein, former Professor of Political Science at Northern Illinois University and former Vice-President of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Writing in 1995, in the first issue of the journal Global Governance, he suggested that global governance could be defined as“governing, without sovereign authority, relationships that transcend national frontiers. Global governance is doing internationally what governments do at home.”1

If you would like to read her entire speech with comments based on her new job at the United Nations, click here now:

So think about this dear readers…..her speech was entitled: Helen Clark: Improving Global Governance.

This did not start with Helen Clark. It was announced by President George H.W. Bush. Don’t believe me? Watch:

Quote:Putin Laughs At Saudi Offer To Betray Syria In Exchange For “Huge” Arms Deal

Posted on August 8, 2013 by Admin

Zero Hedge – by Tyler Durden

One of the more surprising news to hit the tape yesterday was that Saudi Arabia, exasperated and desperate by Russia’s relentless support of the Syrian regime and refusal to abandon the Syrian army thus facilitating the Qatari plan to pass its natgas pipeline to Europe under Syria, had quietly approached Putin with a proposal for a huge arms deal and a pledge to boost Russian influence in the Arab world if only Putin would abandon Syria’s Assad.

It will hardly come as a surprise to anyone that in the aftermath of yesterday’s dilettante mistake by Obama which alienated Putin from the western world (and its subservient states such as Saudi Arabia of course), has just said no. It will certainly come as no surprise because as we explained previously, the biggest loser from Russia abandoning Syria (something we predicted would never happen) would be none other than Russia’s most important company - Gazprom - which would lose its energy grip over Europe as Qatar replaced it as a nat gas vendor.

What is shocking in all of this is that Saudi Arabia was so stupid and/or naive to believe that Putin would voluntarily cede geopolitical control over the insolvent Eurozone, where he has more influence according to some than even the ECB, or Bernanke. Especially in the winter.

From AFP:

On July 31, President Vladimir Putin, a strong backer of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, met Saudi Arabia’s influential intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan, after which both Moscow and Riyadh kept a lid on the substance of the talks.

“Every two years, Bandar bin Sultan meets his Russian counterparts, but this time, he wanted to meet the head of state,” said a European diplomat who shuttles between Beirut and Damascus.

“During the meeting at the Kremlin, the Saudi official explained to his interlocutor that Riyadh is ready to help Moscow play a bigger role in the Middle East at a time when the United States is disengaging from the region.”

Bandar proposed that Saudi Arabia buy $15 billion (11 billion euros) of weapons from Russia and invest “considerably in the country,” the source said.

This is where it gets funny:

The Saudi prince also reassured Putin that “whatever regime comes after” Assad, it will be “completely” in the Saudis’ hands and will not sign any agreement allowing any Gulf country to transport its gas across Syria to Europe and compete with Russian gas exports, the diplomat said.

Right. Of course, if Saudi is found to have lied about this tiny factoid, it will be none other than the US who would step in and defend its brand new “allies” in the Syrian government.

In 2009, Assad refused to sign an agreement with Qatar for an overland pipeline running from the Gulf to Europe via Syria to protect the interests of its Russian ally, which is Europe’s top supplied of natural gas.

An Arab diplomat with contacts in Moscow said: “President Putin listened politely to his interlocutor and let him know that his country would not change its strategy.”

“Bandar bin Sultan then let the Russians know that the only option left in Syria was military and that they should forget about Geneva because the opposition would not attend.”

Russia and the United States have been trying for months to organise an international peace conference between Assad’s regime and the opposition to take place in Geneva, but so far to no avail.

Asked about the Putin-Bandar meeting, a Syrian politician said: “As was the case before with Qatar and Lavrov (in talks), Saudi Arabia thinks that politics is a simple matter of buying people or countries. It doesn’t understand that Russia is a major power and that this is not how it draws up policy.”

“Syria and Russia have had close ties for over half a century in all fields and it’s not Saudi rials that will change this fact,” he added.

The meeting between Bandar and Putin came amid tension between Moscow and Riyadh over the conflict in Syria, as Russia has accused the Saudis of “financing and arming terrorists and extremist groups” in the war which has killed more than 100,000 people since March 2011.

While there was no official reaction to the meeting, Russian experts also said Putin had apparently turned down the Saudi offer.

According to military expert Alexander Goltz from online opposition newspaper Ejednevny, “such an agreement seems extremely improbable.”

Of course it is, because as JPM and Goldman are to the US government, so Gazprom is to Russia.

What is most interesting here is that Russia is now actively stretching its wings against not only the US but its chief foreign allies abroad. Which only means that a confrontation with Israel, directly over Iran or otherwise, is only a matter of time.

Quote:US Military Caught Manipulating Social Media, Running Mass Propaganda Accounts

Anthony Gucciardi
August 9, 2013

It has been common knowledge to anyone paying attention within the alternative news community for years, but once again the media is now admitting that the US military and intelligence agencies are indeed running massive propaganda campaigns that cover a vast array of online networks.

How many times now has such ‘conspiracy nonsense’ now been reported years later by the mega media as undeniable fact? In the case of the US intelligence propaganda machine that even the New York Times has covered in an article entitled ‘The Real War on Reality‘, we are seeing just that. The New York Times report goes on to detail information uncovered from hacked data regarding the military operation to stage ‘grassroots’ responses and organizations in order to deceive via psyop.  Professor of philosophy Peter Ludlow writes for the Times:

“The hack also revealed evidence that Team Themis was developing a “persona management” system — a program, developed at the specific request of the United States Air Force, that allowed one user to control multiple online identities (“sock puppets”) for commenting in social media spaces, thus giving the appearance of grass roots support.  The contract was eventually awarded to another private intelligence firm.”

This cyber warfare is clearly not just in the capacity of ‘improving international reputation’ as military commanders are claiming on record (just like there is ‘no such thing’ as domestic spying and it’s only for terrorists). Instead, we’re talking about running a major network of computers that are constantly running code specifically written to post to social media and news comment pages. Something that was revealed all the way back in 2011 by RawStory and brushed off in the name of national security by the military.

And remember, this is the same military that says political activists are terrorists and need to be targeted. At the highest levels, combating ‘terrorism’ simply means going after law-abiding citizens and journalists — especially so-called ‘leakers’. With propaganda scripts that run 24/7 and are intended to discredit people like Edward Snowden, top level intelligence agencies are teaming up with the military to combat whistleblowers through such phony means.

An excerpt from a particularly concerning summary of a recent German report on how political activists are targeted reads:

“The targets of these attacks are scientists… It does not stop at skirmishes in the scientific community. Hackers regularly target various web pages. Evaluations of IP log files show that not only Monsanto visits the pages regularly, but also various organizations of the U.S. government, including the military. These include the Navy Network Information Center, the Federal Aviation Administration and the United States Army Intelligence Center, an institution of the US Army, which trains soldiers with information gathering.”

Now admittedly the news is not getting nearly as much coverage as it should, especially when considering it highlights two essential points:

1. This means that the United States military and intelligence communities are highly afraid of alternative networks and the overall public perception when it comes to the United States government and the state of the corrupt political mafia at large.

2. This also means that the United States military and intelligence agencies are losing the informational battle, and the only way they can even fight back is to run a conglomerate of fake accounts attacking legitimate users and journalists. You know, the terrorists that dare to question anything.

Social media pages, comment systems on top news websites, and various other areas online are the targets of a pinpointed ‘cyber psyop’ by a government that simply can’t answer real questions. And instead of actually doing anything about the outrage, disinformation campaigns are of utmost priority.

Quote:Friday, August 9, 2013Globalist Agenda Rolling At Super Highway Speed Forcing Conscious Revolution to Accelerate
Bernie Suarez
Activist Post

There is a strange feeling in the air. It’s happening all across America, no really! People everywhere are being pushed to make critical decisions about their perception of the world they now live in. The speed of events is being artificially manipulated by the globalists; who evidently realize that time is running out and are seeking control and are going for it all. They are doing the obvious, like now introducing the North American Union, denying NSA spying exposed by whistleblowers and even creating world-wide fake terror stories to deflect the NSA spying scandal and to create justification for NSA at the same time.

The mainstream media seems to be falling apart at the seams, struggling between truth and lies with every story. Corrupt politicians are feeling pressured to go for it all and stand for illegal spying on Americans and standing for legislation that blatantly violates the Constitution. What’s a selected politician to do?

These choices are occurring everywhere from the very bottom to the top of government; people everywhere are also making the choice between freedom and fascism. This choice is an issue of consciousness, belief system, conviction, morals and values.

In the quiet chambers of their (our) minds, people (we) are deciding what they (we) will stand for. Is freedom worth fighting for? Is it worth dying for? Is the government really that corrupt? People wonder, is there really anything I can do about it? What will actually happen if I do nothing? Or, maybe I can do this one little thing and then I’ll see how things are. Others wonder, perhaps now is the time to adopt a new philosophy. We all wonder how each of us can strike the right balance to where we’re confident and content that we’ve made the right decision. These are just some of the questions and choices people throughout America and the world are considering. This pondering is an awakening (to the reality that our fight is for freedom) started in many other countries throughout the world including the Middle East many decades ago

The Entire Speech by JFK that May Well Have Led to His Death
at  02:00  Posted by  Vatic Master

Vatic Note:  Oh, my, this is the very first time I have heard this speech in its entirety.  This not only shows the full extent of the problems he saw, but it shows just how closely he called it back in 1961, and why he had to die according to the planned coup of the nation.  We are seeing today, the results of his vision and knowledge that had he remained alive, would certainly have changed the world as we know it today.

Every time I read or listen to one of his speeches and read what he did to keep his promises, that cost him his life,  I am more and more convince of the greatness of this man and just how big a loss to our nation, his death truly was. Like all Presidents, I have no doubt he made some mistakes, but on the bigger picture and larger scale, I believe if he had been allowed to live, they would have paled in comparison to the good he was doing.

Please listen to the entire speech. It reveals even more than the short version did, and maybe that is why the short version was promoted instead of the full speech.  We also get a glimpse of JFK's incredible sense of humor and intellectual prowess.  What a man and what a great President.

Quote:The Clinton Chronicles

from ThePeriledSea 1 year ago not yet rated

Daily News @ RevolutionNews.US — Why does the media cover-up all of President/Governor Clinton's crimes?

Most people think that the biggest felony made by Bill Clinton might be that he swore falsely under oath in the Lewinsky affair. But this is peanuts compared to the real crimes, yet undetected by most American people.

It was in Oxford as a student Clinton came to hear about the One World Government for the first time, and what was required to be a member of this New World Order. In an interview in 1994 Clinton said that he'd known about the "Shadow-government" already in his youth, and had been very enthusiastic to get an entrance into the "Inner Circle" and from there have the opportunity to participate in decisions regarding the future of the world.

He succeeded! The "President-maker" David Rockefeller met Clinton in the mid 80's in Arkansas to prepare him for what was to come. The State of Arkansas, by the way, is a major seat for the Brotherhood elite. The south branch of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry has its center here, and from this area Albert Pike (33 degree Freemason) created the Ku Klux Klan.

Clinton worked himself up rapidly and became a governor of Arkansas. As a governor Bill Clinton committed a series of high crimes, related to his Illuminati connection. He became the leader of a gigantic network which dealt with drug-smuggling, laundering of drug-money and corruption in general.

A good friend of Clinton from Arkansas, Larry Nichols, was interviewed in a film. Clinton thought that Nichols would keep his mouth shut, but he didn't. He was hired by Clinton and had found out that Clinton's firm, "Arkansas Development Finance Authority" (ADFA), laundered drug-money. Cocaine to a value of $10.000.000 (ten million dollars!) a week was flown in from Mena Airport in Arkansas. The money was laundered via ADFA to a bank in Florida, to a bank in Georgia, to Citycorp in New York, and from there it was transferred out of the country. All this regarding to Larry Nichols.

Clinton's best friend, Dan Lasater, led the operations. Lasater and Bill Clinton's brother, Roger Clinton, later spent time in jail due to drug related crimes.

The Chief of Police in Arkansas at that time, Doc Delaughter, said he had gathered information from many persons in Lasater's surroundings, how he smuggled drugs and abused young girls sexually. During those investigations Doc was harassed by persons from his own police department, paid by Clinton.

Bill Clinton created new laws that helped "Tyson Foods" to be the biggest company in Arkansas. The owner, Don Tyson, received a loan from the Clinton-owned ADFA, but never had to pay back. Doc says he has evidence enough against Tyson to start an investigation regarding illegal drug-trade. Nichols says in the film:

The first loan ADFA approved was to "Park-O-Meter" ... When I investigated the company, I found that the Directive Secretary and cashier was Webb Hubbell ... Guess who wrote the law proposition ... which made ADFA possible. Webb Hubbell. Guess who drove the law proposition which looked into- and admitted (Park-O-Meter's) request. "Rose Law Firm" (owned by Hillary Clinton). Who signed the admittance? Webb Hubbell and Hillary Clinton.

Nichols said that when journalists started investigating the loans to "Park-O-Meter", they discovered that the company did not make parking meters, but removable airplane nose-cones, delivered to the air-field in Mena. The equipment was used to smuggle narcotics into the country, and with this Clinton and his companions participated heavily to the pushing of street-drugs in the USA.

Nichols says further that Clinton most of the time was involved in drug trade and the people he surrounded himself with followed him all the way to the White House.

The U.S. Army Suspension and Debarment Office has declined to act in 43 such cases, John Sopko, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, said today in a letter accompanying a quarterly report to Congress.

Attachment: Inspector General's Summary “I am deeply troubled that the U.S. military can pursue, attack, and even kill terrorists and their supporters, but that some in the U.S. government believe we cannot prevent these same people from receiving a government contract,” Sopko said.

The 236-page report and Sopko’s summary provide one of the watchdog agency’s most critical appraisals of U.S. performance in helping to build a stable Afghanistan as the Pentagon prepares to withdraw combat troops by the end of next year.

“There appears to be a growing gap between the policy objectives of Washington and the reality of achieving them in Afghanistan, especially when the government must hire and oversee contractors to perform its mission,” said Sopko, whose post was mandated by Congress.

Quote:Behind the chill is America’s ‘superior’ mentality. The single most important national security imperative for the United States is to maintain correct relations with Russia. It’s not Al Qaeda, NSA, China, North Korea, or any other issue.
That’s why President Barack Obama’s cancellation of his planned meeting with Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, during the 5-6 September Group of 20 meeting in St. Petersburg is so dismaying.
Russia has over 3,000 active nuclear warheads, the majority aimed at North America. The US has a similarly powerful nuclear arsenal, primarily targeted on Russia, or in reserve for a second strike in the event of all-out war.
When two men are holding loaded pistols to each other’s heads, keeping cool, calm and polite is imperative. But that’s just what Washington has not been doing, exposing Americans to an unnecessary national security risk for no apparent gain.
Informal meetings between heads of state on the sidelines of major international meetings are common and useful. Such sit-downs serve to smooth over ongoing disputes and send a message of orderly, civilised relations.  The tone is often more important than the content.
Relations between Washington and Moscow have been growing steadily chill over recent years. Gone are the days when the credulous George Bush could say he looked into Putin’s eyes and trusted him. A series of disputes – Syria, Palestine, arms control, Missile Defence – bedevil US-Russian relations.  Washington has been blasting Moscow over human rights, which is pretty rich coming after Guantanamo, waterboarding, and massive US spying on the whole world, including Americans.
Behind this Big Chill is Washington’s ongoing treatment of Russia as a second or third-rate power. The US lectures and hectors Russia and affords scant concern of Moscow’s strategic interests or spheres of interest. Europe gets much the same treatment. Whenever Russia refuses to go along with US policy – Syria being a good example – it comes in for barrages of criticism over human and political rights in America’s state-influenced media and Congress.
President Putin is no angel: he’s tough as nails and brooks no opposition. But that’s what Russians want. Putin has raised Russia off its knees.
In 1989, I was the first Western journalist admitted into KGB’s Moscow headquarters, the Lubyanka. I was told by senior KGB generals that they were ditching the rotten, corrupt Communist Party. What Russia needed, they said, was a tough, iron-fisted leader like the strongmen then running Chile and South Korea. Shortly after, KGB mounted a palace coup in the Kremlin and installed one of its star officers, Vladimir Putin, as prime minister, then president.
Now, President Obama has made clear he is boycotting his planned meeting with Putin because of human rights issues and Syria. The 800-lb gorilla he did not mention is Edward Snowden, now in temporary Russian exile. Given that Washington is in bed with numerous rights violators – think of Uzbekistan, Mubarak’s Egypt, Azerbaijan – its squeamishness over Russia rings hollow.
As for Syria, it’s Washington that is violating international law by fomenting the uprising against the Assad regime in Damascus; Russia is well within its legal rights to support Assad and arm him.  More important, Syria is close to southern Russia and a long-time Soviet/Russian ally. Imagine the US response if Russia sought to overthrow Mexico’s government using Cuban advisors and local insurgents.
Imagine if the US increased its arms supplies to Syria’s rebels and imposed a no-fly zone, as Sen. John McCain urges.  Russian S-300 anti-aircraft missiles down US warplanes. The US launches attacks on Russian AA units, then on Russian ships delivering arms to the Assad government. It’s not hard to see how a direct clash over Syria could put Russia and the US on their most perilous collision course since the Cuban missile crisis.
Instead of dealing with this major threat, Obama, under blistering attack from Republicans over the deaths of three Americans in Benghazi, Libya, is offending Putin and indeed all Russians. This is foolish, shortsighted and sure to worsen US-Russian relations as well as scuttling chances of an arms control pact in the next few years. Or, in simple English: President Obama, don’t kick sand in the face of a man holding a gun to your head.

Quote:into the light of day. Who’d that benefit, is this, ‘The Truth’ that scares the someone(s) with something to hide! Amazing, isn’t it, how accurately those mortars were placed by those rag—tag protesters. Is it possible that our arms-length conflict has now become a little more direct?

Whatever the truth is, Turkey wants everybody off their soil. They want a buffer zone created across the border inside Syria, where the UN, the U.S. and NATO, can care for the refugee population they arecon...iving into this insane civil war.

While the curtain is being forcibly closed on the unfortunate events involving Ambassador Stevens and his associates, the stage is nearly set for the next act. We’ve seen the first glimpse of that act in the last several days, when a mortar was launched into Turkey and Turkey responded in kind. All that is needed now is for a dutiful media to present one image, a video, or some other “proof” that Assad or someone else is using, or has their hands on, unconventional weapons. This will provide the necessary pretext for the U.S. and NATO, to intervene and ramp up the war against Assad. The UN will assist, and the red line will then have been crossed.

Don’t you hate it when your patriotic energy is twisted in a Jujutsu style move against you? Your family? Your country?

It is important to understand that Russia has upwards of 100,000 troops and “advisors” on the ground in Syria and a significant contingent of their navy is parked in the Mediterranean front yard. Consider that against the historical backdrop of Vietnam. It’s too long a conversation for now, but we need to have it soon. Current events have put Russia’s back against the wall, and they intend to come out fighting. Consider what Mr. Obama has done, at the behest of his Sunni Muslim handlers, facilitating “change” in the complexion of North Africa and all of the Middle East. Now visualize what the geopolitical landscape will look like should President Obama’s handlers continue to push their Pan-Arab, United States of Muslim’s agenda. We can’t fight what we refuse to see, or understand what we accept even exists.

Though the Lemming lie was exposed long ago, the tale was so well told, that even today, the vast majority of our fellow citizens still believe it. The voice and words are still ringing in my ears: “remain seated, we will be on the ground shortly.” The sounds and narration lull us to acquiescence. The camera’s shots are well planned and the lighting and focus precise, to date we’ve only seen directly and indirectly the subtleties the directors and editors wanted us to see.

I say “STOP!” the turntables, somebody turn on the lights in here.

Let’s refuse to be herded into this latest lying, fabricated documentary; we actors have been sold a bill of goods concerning who’s behind this film and how it plays out! I don’t want anyone doing voiceovers when they edit it later, making it look like I agreed with all this crap! Let’s start moving to the exits and hope there are no hidden shooters or bomb throwers in the crowd! There is still a little time. I, for one, refuse to believe that we have no choice, but to dutifully, willingly allow ourselves to be plopped on that turntable for their horrific next scene.

May God help us all with light and wisdom for what’s ahead.

Quote:NBC’s Meet the Press hits lowest rating in 21 years
by Jon Rappoport
August 15, 2013

Another media ship is going down. Break out the champagne.

The big-3 Sunday morning news shows are basically politicians talking through the screen to their colleagues in Georgetown. Gibberish from idiots to other idiots.

In so far as the shows reach the general viewing public…

The unspoken premise of This Week, Meet the Press, and Face the Nation goes like this: Given the fact that America is making constant war to expand the imperial corporate empire, the military industrial complex is suffering a hernia from carrying so much money, multiple agencies are spying on everybody all the time, the medical system in America is killing 2.25 million people per decade, millions of acres of untested GMO food plus Roundup are a runaway health disaster, the Fed Reserve is a private banking monopoly posing as a government agency, the Mexican border is a sieve for the Sinaloa Cartel to kick off their Washington-approved drug routes to a distribution hub called Chicago, only “the cops and thugs should have guns,” the government-sponsored mental-health monopoly called psychiatry is destroying the brains of countless numbers of children, vaccines are filled with toxic ingredients, the federal government is pouring wet cement on the Constitution every hour of every day, more people are using food stamps than are working, our children are learning how to become little robots in school, the free and independent individual is an anathema, television is brainwashing 300 million people, and all presidents are vetted to ensure they’ll support a Globalist planet…NONE OF WHICH WE’LL TOUCH ON IN THE NEXT HOUR…

“Well, David, gurgle, gurgle, ahem, and then we have, but of course, some people believe, although I would say…”

These Sunday morning shows should be a ring of Hell, where sinners experience an eternity of soul-eating boredom and rage.

The challenge for David Gregory (Meet the Press (NBC)), George Stephanopoulos (This Week (ABC)), and Bob Schieffer (Face the Nation (CBS)) is: how do I make the interviews and conversations sound real, when more and more viewers realize we’re just doing another trance-induction?

The basis of hypnotic trance is: no authentic context. That’s it. The victim narrows his focus, under the direction of the hypnotist, producing a free-floating state devoid of any significant external connections.

David Gregory’s ratings-dive to third place, among the Sunday puppet shows, is mainly the effect of him failing to affect a persona that enhances the basic hypnotic effect of the non-news. He’s just a bland gray egg.

He doesn’t produce the sing-song mesmerizing rhythms of Bob Schieffer, who learned that trick as an anchor. Stephanopoulos, the “boy wonder” from the Clinton years, works an earnest front for the This Week audience, pretending he’s really “searching for answers” to weighty questions.

Gregory is basically a poor actor. He’s clueless about how to present clueless news. And he replaced the popular Tim Russert, who made his reputation by liking every disingenuous moron he ever interviewed.

The Sunday morning news-talk shows were invented to transmit the impression the networks were doing “public service by exploring political issues in greater depth.” They became prestige items for corporate advertisers.

The Sunday shows also evolved, over the years, to present the entirely phony idea that, on all major subjects of interest, the two political parties in America hold widely diverging views. Media companies, of course, specialize in that nonsense. The public must never learn there is basically one political party in the US.

Absent any prurient scandal, mass shooting, or disaster, these shows hobble along until election season, when they really swing into gear and feature The Horse Race. At that point, they vibrate between giving free ad time to candidates and asking deep thinkers to assess how the competing election PR teams are doing in their efforts to rope in voters.

In general, the Sunday morning viewing audience is supposed to feel they’re peering through a window to obtain insiders’ views on topics of great import.

David Gregory is dying on camera. Perhaps Mr. Wackadoodle, Chris Matthews, will ascend to the Meet the Press throne.

However, in the endless op to persuade Americans that the two-party system encompasses the whole spectrum of political thought, the Sunday shows have already been upstaged by more asinine and, therefore, popular installments: MSNBC and FOX. There you can find bigger hacks and hustlers shoveling 24/7 manure. They don’t bother with the niceties. They just pile it on by the ton. There, also, the proof of the pudding is in the eating during election season. If there is any lingering hope that newspeople believe the Constitution holds a shred of validity, those networks dispel it when they start wall to wall campaigning for the latest presidential crime figures.

Exit From the Matrix

About-Face on the Nation, This Weak, and Meat the Press don’t stand a chance. They’re relics of a time when lies were supposed to be delivered politely.

The three major networks should bury those corpses and use the time to re-air the most outrageous partisan political moments of the week, from FOX, MSNBC, and CNN.

A special segment, called Operation Mockingbird, would feature a CIA spokesman delivering “the best lie we planted as a news story in the past seven days.”

A final feature, played for comic value, The NSA Spies on an Entirely Innocent Private Citizen, would highlight the blow-by-blow tracking of an American at work and at home.

And then it’s on to golf, infomercials for vacation paradises and juicers, and Mail Your Money to This Particular TV Preacher Before It’s Too Late.

Not to worry. I’m developing an exciting Sunday show called The Food Stamp President. We’ll take cameras into the homes and cardboard boxes of formerly employed Americans who are learning a valuable lesson: Dependence means never having to say you’re sorry. We’re negotiating with a primary sponsor. Planned Parenthood. They have deep pockets, via your generous tax contributions to the federal government.

The overriding message? The gov will always and forever save you, but you should abort all those extra family members before they come into this world. It’ll give you a stress-free existence.

Other sponsors? Cell-phone companies. “Talk is cheap, and we’ll prove it. Sign up for your gratis phone. The White House loves you.”

NSA Using Copyright Claims To Crush Free Speech?

Can a government agency block criticism by claiming copyright infringement? Sounds a bit ridiculous but it is happening.  The NSA is effectively stopping one small business owner from criticism, claiming that by using its name he has infringed on their copyright.

Can they do that?

This is a Reality Check you won’t see anywhere else.

This is a story I had a hard time believing until I looked into it for myself.  Here is the backstory.

Dan McCall is the owner of a company that makes snarky t-shirts.  The company is called Liberty Maniacs. Liberty Maniacs carry a number of t-shirts dealing with lack of privacy and the growing police state.  They sell on a site called

None of it has been a problem—until Liberty Maniacs released a shirt called “The NSA.”

The image looks like the NSA logo but has a motto that is clearly a pun—“Peeping while you are sleeping”—followed by the phrase “The NSA, the only part of government that actually listens.”

Shortly after the shirt went online, pulled the shirt from its website, sending this message: “Thank you for publishing products on Zazzle.

Unfortunately, it appears that your product, The NSA, contains content that is in conflict with one or more of our acceptable content guidelines. We will be removing this product from the Zazzle Marketplace shortly.

“Policy Notes: Design contains an image or text that may infringe on intellectual property rights. We have been contacted by the intellectual property right holder and we will be removing your product from Zazzle’s Marketplace due to infringement claims.”

Dan McCall, the owner of Liberty Maniacs spoke with me via Skype and says there were multiple items dealing with the NSA that were pulled down from Zazzle.

“In terms of shirts, two, and then maybe four or five bumper stickers.  Basically anything remotely relating to the NSA was taken down.  So I’m not sure if that was subsequently a blanket policy that Zazzle themselves put up because they don’t want to deal with the hassle and they didn’t want to spend time interpreting each thing knowing they would run into problems or if they were plugged into NSA legal and they were watching things as they go,” says McCall.

So to be clear, McCall was using the NSA logo, the NSA claimed copyright infringement and pulled the content down.

In fairness, what McCall was doing does use the official logo of a government agency.  Can anyone just use that logo?  Actually, yes.  According to both the Electronic Freedom Foundation and the American Bar Association, “parody is recognized as a type of fair use, like other commentary and criticism, and courts recognize that a parody must often take recognizable elements from the work it comments upon.

Courts do distinguish parody from satire. Parody copies from the object it mocks…”

You can’t claim copyright infringement if your logo or image is used as part of a parody.  So the next question, is this logo a parody?

According to the U.S. Supreme Court, a parody “is the use of some elements of a prior author’s composition to create a new one that, at least in part, comments on that author’s works. Like other forms of comment or criticism, parody can provide social benefit, by shedding light on an earlier work, and, in the process, creating a new one.”

“According to the [U.S. Supreme] Court, a parody is the ‘use of some elements of a prior author’s composition to create a new one that, at least in part, comments on that author’s works.’ Id. at 580. Like other forms of comment or criticism, parody can provide social benefit, ‘by shedding light on an earlier work, and, in the process, creating a new one.’ Id.” –Juli Wilson Marshall, Nicholas J. Siciliano, Latham & Watkins LLP

McCall says, “I tried to visually take the most obvious direction at pointing at them that I could. It was their logo.  I just tried to adulterate it a little bit and put a few jabs in there and that will be it. So it wasn’t a huge design coup and it did the job basically.”

Now, what might be the most interesting twist in this entire story is that while the NSA is claiming copyright infringement against McCall for his parody, the NSA itself is facing accusations of true copyright infringement.

Take a look at this image.  This is the official NSA logo for the Prism program. Prism is, of course, the program that deals with NSA spying via email and phone records.

According to reports from England, the Prism image used here is being used without permission.

Adam Hart Davis is a well-known BBC presenter and the image belongs to him.  Here is the Davis pic.  As you can see, the NSA image is just Davis’ picture flipped upside down.  Adam’s son, Damon, who wrote about this in the Register Newspaper, claims that the image is free for use, but a donation is requested and, at minimum, use of the image requires a link to his photo gallery and acknowledgement, none of which he has received from the NSA.

What you need to know is that because the work put out by Liberty Maniacs is clearly a parody, it is not copyright infringement.  That is the easiest part of this story.

But the bigger issue here is the issue of free speech. It is a first amendment issue. McCall sees it that way as well.

“First amendment issues affect everybody and it specifically affects everybody who is expressing themselves—any artist, whether on the right or on the left or in the middle or whatever side.  If you are not allowed to express yourself artistically or in many other ways, we have taken a turn for the worse,” says McCall.

Bottom line, there is no gray area here.  But the NSA is a very powerful government agency. They don’t need a gray area or even to be right to get companies like to cooperate.

This is why Internet piracy bills like SOPA and PIPA and CISPA are so dangerous.  If those bills become law, all the feds have to do is claim copyright infringement to shut down an entire site.  They don’t have to be right.

Dan McCall’s story is just a taste of what happens when government agencies decide they will enforce laws but not be subject to them.

And that is Reality Check.
