SOHO X Files and Interplanetary Anomalies
#67
Via ... - slaps hand to forehead - ... this is so confusing ! The SOHO probe was still receiving data from it's other instruments in the missing time period that you cite ... C3 and EIT instruments are both listed as having data in both the search forms (processed and raw FITS). So unless there is some reason that the C2 detector becomes overloaded at these times something is not right here.

I am reminded of Clarke's message in his stories told through the HAL plot-line. I think it is aimed at people like us. HAL is setup to operate in an environment "without reason for obscuration or deception" (I'll dig up the exact quote) as revealed in the film 2010. Launching "free and fair" space missions and then lying and deceiving can be SO confusing to the honest enquiring mind ... as Clarke was pointing out. Of course, we are not AI's.

I only checked C2 and C3, and that data is definitely missing in the time frames I posted.
If the other data is there, then they purposely retracted the C2 and C3 data is my assumption.
That would be for one reason only.
They were scared to death that what might happen at perihelion would be a Re Pete
of the NEATV 1 scenario one year earlier which made headlines all over the net.

Perhaps something did happen in those 19 odd hours that C2 and C3 were not operating.

Double check please DJ, I don't have time now.

The EIT data is there for those missing hours?

  Magnificent Magnetic Field
« on: Today at 10:06:35 AM » Quote

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MAGNIFICENT ACTIVE REGION:  Sunspot 1087 has a magnetic canopy that can only be described as magnificent.

The active region could swallow our planet ten times over and still have room to spare. Fortunately, we're 93 million miles away. We could still feel the effects of an eruption, however. The thicket of magnetic loops and filaments harbors energy for M-class solar flares. M-flares can heat and puff up Earth's upper atmosphere, causing satellites to experience extra drag as they orbit our planet; they can also cause waves of ionization to ripple around the planet, disrupting radio communications. There haven't been any big eruptions yet, but the magnificent magnetic field of sunspot 1087 has been restless, as shown in this time-lapse movie spanning four days.

NOAA forecasters estimate a 10% chance of M-flares during the next 24 hours. Readers with solar telescopes are encouraged to monitor developments

A lot of images were lost in this thread when the Hidden Mission Journal got hacked,
and that is where I had many of them.
Hopefully I will get to having some of them replaced.

Milky Way's antimatter linked to exotic black holes
Quote:Deep space X-ray flash is most powerful ever recorded

It was bright, fierce and thankfully short.
A mysterious event in a distant galaxy has blasted our solar system with the most powerful burst of X-rays ever recorded,
temporarily blinding an astronomical satellite.

At 0303 GMT on --- 21 June <-----
a sudden burst of X-rays struck the Swift spacecraft, the mission team reported on Wednesday.

Swift orbits Earth at an altitude of 600 kilometres,
where the blast was so intense that it overwhelmed the spacecraft's X-ray detector.
It also confused the software that analyses the mission's data on the ground,
says David Burrows of Pennsylvania State University in University Park, the mission's chief scientist.

"[The software] basically threw up its hands and said,
'Something must be wrong, because the data doesn't make sense,'" he says.

Puzzling pummelling
Swift's records show that at its peak, the burst pummelled the spacecraft with 143,000 X-ray photons per second.

That made it nearly 15 times as bright as Scorpius X-1, a neutron star 9000 light years from Earth
that is normally the brightest X-ray object in the sky.
The burst dimmed rapidly during its first few seconds but continued glowing for about 10 minutes.

This powerful beginning was probably the most powerful X-ray flash ever recorded, Burrows says.
An X-ray flash observed in 1979 may have appeared brighter –
the comparison is hard to make because the 1979 flash was observed by a different spacecraft –
but only because it occurred in a nearby galaxy, just 160,000 light years from Earth.
By contrast, the June flash was traced to a vastly more distant galaxy 5 billion light-years away.

No one knows what caused the burst,
but a clue lies in the fact that it accompanied a lengthy burst of gamma rays from deep space.
Swift's purpose is to determine the origin of such bursts using three telescopes that detect gamma rays, X-rays,
and ultraviolet and visible light.
Long gamma-ray bursts are thought to be due to jets of matter shooting out almost at the speed of light
from a star that is collapsing to form a black hole:
the same type of event may have caused the recent X-ray burst.

However, shock waves from these violent events normally produce around 10 to 100 X-ray photons per second,
so the Swift team is at a loss to explain why this X-ray burst was more than 1000 times brighter than this.

"We're very puzzled – we don't understand it yet," Burrows says.
"Every once in a while something comes along that's completely unexpected and this is one of them."

OK, so I always check SOHO on an event like this,

except that everything on C3 after June 20 is unavailable, and everything after June 21 on C2 is unavailable in archives.... !

You know this is a bit suspicious.
Looking at the article linked in the above post of mine with the XRay burst on  21 June,
and that I could not get into SOHO for several days just recently,
and found my way into SOHO via ESA 2 days ago,
and then could not get any archival images from the 21st of June 2010 forward.....

I posted this in my prior post with my observations on SOHO archive being down
with all time stamps beyond the 21st of June missing,
and the very next morning my regular SOHO link access is returned,
and all the archive images are now available.

OK
On the 27th when I assume it is Venus that goes behind the corona disc of the SOHO C3 image,
several hours of images are missing,
and Venus is doing some bizarre light show along a vector at about ten oclock position as it emerges from obstructed view.
see image below

Earlier images a day prior also show a distinct vector but much thinner in presence of light
coming out of Venus in the same direction of ten oclock.
The day before the 26th

Something was definitely removed as Venus brightened considerably on SOHO, no question,
because everything else is back up and now available of waht was missing ...except the timeframes posted.

I was working for a guy who discovered the first major periodic effect in solar magnetic quadrants, using the Interplanetary Monitoring Platform, IMP, in the early 1960's. The reason it took so long was that the four quadrants were 2/7ths, 2/7ths, 2/7ths, and 1/7th wide at the equator of the sun. A lot of science works faster these days, but not so for cancer, AIDS, or even economics.

Those are excellent posts Wook!
thanks.

I have been observing....conducting surveillance on SOHO images for the past month.

There appears to be a concentrated effort to remove time stamped images when major CME's are occurring,
or they need to explain why they are missing and later some are showing up.

One can excuse a malfunction here,
or a data drop there,
but not when they are exclusively occurring only on CME events,
or else some crazy shit is happening in the solar system right now causing SOHO satellite to drop all the important CMEs.

For a reference we will look at the last 48-52 hours,
about two days,
and notice what happens on SOHO with these CME's or other phenomena like this unknown object
that precedes all the images that are missing for two days.

These time frames are direct copies off SOHO search and the ones on early 29th {bottom of post}
were missing but showed up a day and a half later .... edited?....reorganized?....wtf?
It will be interesting to see if these time stamps appear in the next few days.

the CME is fully extended 13 hours later from the 0342 time stamp
[Image: 20100730_1618_c3_1024.jpg]

On the 28th late
a CME occurs and follows into the 29th.

In this case again several images were missing.
I emailed SOHO site
and complained,
now suddenly they are there to be found,
so I emailed again and complained about the rest of the missing images for the 29th and 30th.
They may still show up.

CME late the 28th and morning of the 29th
http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov//data/RE ... 3_1024.jpg
http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov//data/RE ... 3_1024.jpg

So the question then is why are CME images missing, then suddenly reappearing?
I copied the timestamps of each search query offered,
and I am watching closely.
SOHO time stamps are in exact sequence not missing a heartbeat for all other time frames
where there are no CMEs.

The sun is getting very active right now.
30 hours plus of missing images on SOHO in two days of CMEs, or that anomalous bright object imaged above.

It will be interesting to see if these time stamps appear in the next few days.

Quote:p.s. Via I am just wondering if no other solar astronomers have noticed this lack of data?

Much of the missing data keeps reappearing days later is the point.
Images missing from early morning the 29th of the CME, appeared a day or two later.
They were definitely missing and I sent them an email at SOHO about the missing time frames,
with copies of their search data.
I doubt too many people are following the CMEs as often as I do
to bother with noticing missing time frames in such noticeable and coincidental circumstance.

It wouldn't bother me much if the missing image time frame sections didn't coincide right with CME's,
thus deleting much of the solar events,
or with an anomalous object:
http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov//data/RE ... 3_1024.jpg
which is not in any time frames prior,
and then SOHO images are missing for 7 hours in a row immediately following.
Those kind of coincidences packed into a 50 hour period of 30 hours of missing images,
is quite unusual even for SOHO.

Like I said,
it will be interesting to see if the images show up in a couple of days,
and if so why?

Solar Tsunami? Look Up Tonight for a Grand Show
7 hours 32 minutes ago

Quote:Aug. 3) -- A solar storm could make tonight a great night for stargazing.

The sun's surface erupted early Sunday and sent tons of plasma into space, according to the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. It's headed toward Earth, which could be in for a beautiful light show.

"This eruption is directed right at us, and is expected to get here early in the day on August 4th," astronomer Leon Golub of the astrophysics center, said in a statement. "It's the first major Earth-directed eruption in quite some time."

Some publications have dubbed it a "solar tsunami

Apparently that solar "tsunami" is already hitting us tonite, according to news reports.

The sun has been hammering off CMEs one after another since midnight the 28th.

I have never seen the SOHO satellite lose so many images in a 5 day period.

Just tonite SOHO is whipping out images every 11-12 minutes, when it is usually about every hour.
It makes no sense.

Those intense northern lights talked about in the news are supposed to be tonite and tomorrow night,
so I assume that some of the solar "tsunami" is already hitting Earth
and causing electrical disturbances,
which brings me to this:

I went into the high mountains here today, and there was rolling raging thunder and massive lightning storms throughout the North Cascades above 5000 feet.
I got 1.5 miles up the Hidden Lake Peak trail and then shit happened really fast,
and anybody on the trail basically ran for their lives back down to the trail head and the cars.
Motherfucking lightning coming down everywhere and the thunder was like Clash of the Titans,
then a cold downpour like I have never seen in my life ensued with 4-5 inches of rain in an hour.
Lightning would flash just ahead of me in the mists,
and before you could count to the number two, the thunderclap was shaking the ground.
The trail became like a raging creek, and I got totally soaked to the bone in 5 minutes way up that trail.
It was spooky, and scary, and unreal.
I am glad I didn't get caught in it even further up the trail.

So these solar storms recently are the supposed perpetrator of the SOHO data drops
which are losing most of the CME images,
due to electrical interference...?

This is apparently what is heading our way,
and this CME went into Sunday morning then 14 hours go blank on SOHO

I'm in the Columbia River Gorge and we got those thunderstorms. They were the most intense storms I've ever seen in this area. My wife had never heard anything like it. Like cannons going off on our roof. Lightning and no time at all before the clap (clap is too weak of a word) of thunder. Local lightning, sheet lightning, far away lightning. It was a helluva show. We didn't get that much rain though, only about half an inch in an hour.

Hey Arnik!
Thanks for that post and the confirmation of the storms.
I will guess that you are well away from the coast and inland about 60 miles.
I have been in similar storms in the Oroville area in the mountains
where I have seen lightning hit the ground no more than 200 feet away,
with a little sizzling zig zag in the bolt just before impact,
but nothing like the sudden impact of what I was in,
or the unbelieveable amount of water that came down from the skies.
It was wrath of God and biblical prophecy all in one storm,
and you can easily understand  why people get killed by lightning in the mountains.

I was out in the open at 1.5 mile mark on the trail at about 5500 feet.
The actual lightning storm was at about 7000-10000 feet,
and started with rolling thunder that kept building.
The hike started with clearing skies, and within an hour
the peaks were shrouded in dark nasty thick clouds
preceded by giant rising thunderhead cumulus clouds
that I thought were rising and going away when I started the hike,
as you can usually forecast the weather by eye.

I moved fast to get under deep forest cover and the lightning chased me
and a group of older folks {and they had rain gear!}
right down the trail, as the storm descended down the mountain,

I ran all 1.5 miles back down the trail and had to stop to take a piss in the deluge.
As I was pissing, and the lightning is blasting no more than 1.5 seconds away by sound count,
it occurred to me that if lightning struck the creek that the trail had become,
an electric charge might shoot right up my piss stream and fry my balls,
and leave me with a smoking 6 inch stumpy.

I caught one image on the way down,
and this creek is WAY over the banks and that vertical spray explosion you see there
that results from the culvert shooting out tons of water was about 8 feet high,
though the image doesn't reveal the true impact.
I thought that the logging road might wash out there,
as it has before at that exact spot.

Now check out SOHO,
as the satellite is pumping out images every 12 minutes on the 3rd and 4th
..... I guess they got they message huh?
except for one 12 hour gap.
So one of two things are either happening.
These solar storms are unprecedented in some form of energy release
that is causing massive data drops,
or NASA is removing important CME passages to negate SOHO research by the common man.

So WHAT caused this recent storm?
What is the sun reacting to?
WTF is out there?
Just odd planetary alignments?
Maybe a Big kahuna long period comet is coming,
or passed through with perihelion way out past Jupiter.
Below,
Tempel 2 is NOT a long period comet.

Fully 60-65% of the SOHO time frames are missing from the last 5 days.
You think this is common?
No F-ing way.
You can go back to 2000 when CMEs were toasting up like Pop Tarts,
and the full CMEs are all there.
When NEATV1 and Bradfield went by the sun and the same data drops occurred,
Joe Gurman clearly stated that this happens only once or twice a year.

We have had 5 days in a row of SOHO missing time frames of CMEs
in one of the most intense solar storms in years.

If SOHO is data dropping, why aren't other satellites malfunctioning?
There has been no satellite TV or cell phone interruptions.
Military defense satellites no doubt are doing fine.
Why just SOHO suddenly?
It would be great if they would explain that one.

SOHO time frames every 12 minutes suddenly except a 12 hour data drop:

These guys are predicting a CME arrival for tommorrow (I thought we got hit with it today):  i'm going to spend the day scrying.

http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/today.html  -

3-day Solar-Geophysical Forecast issued Aug 04 22:00 UTC
Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be very low. However, there will be a chance for an isolated C-class flare from Region 1093.

Geophysical Activity Forecast: Geomagnetic field activity is expected to be at unsettled to active levels until midday on day 1 (05 August). Activity is forecast to increase to active to minor storm levels with a chance for major storm levels beginning midday on 05 August due to the expected arrival of a CME associated with a large filament disappearance on 01 August. Activity is expected to decrease to unsettled to minor storm levels on day 2 (06 August) as the CME passage continues. A further decrease to quiet to unsettled levels is expected on day 3 (07 August).

Military Hush-Up: Incoming Space Rocks Now Classified http://ow.ly/2mrxX #Military #Hush-Up #Incoming #Space #Rocks #Now #Classified #secret

While using "NEOs" as a pretext, the Milititary now can "secretrize"...ANYTHING 'out there'.

We've had TWO major storm systems move through Northen NY and VT onto through MA, NH and ME in past weeks:

There's video stuff there too

Also Southern Canada experienced similar weather.

I am catching back up with the forum after  12 days of exterior remodel construction addition
here at the house with 10 and 12 hour days of work.
As such I have not monitored SOHO in that time until tonite .... and bingo,
a choice CME emerges just this evening.
Hopes were that with the flurry of CMEs
that preceded the "Grand Cardinal Cross" astrological event about 4 days prior
{and Comet tempel 2}, would also return 4 days after the event,
which would be about the 10th.

CME's did not return until the 14th and 15th.

14th:

This timeframe is a SOHO cam malfunction during a smaller CME on the 15th,
that was immediately followed by a larger one.

Just tonite on the 18th, a dandy CME on C3 then C2:
