What's really going on in the Antarctic?

Antarctica.

What actually lies beneath all that snow and ice? And why have so many nations been so
interested in studying the continent for such a long time?

Impressive list of expeditions to the continent:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ant...xpeditions

Perhaps there is more there than anyone could ever imagine.

OK. Here's the premise. Antarctica is a continent that once had a resident civilization.
Certain expeditions to the area found remnents of that civilization and have been mining
technology ever since.

One of the first major (and Military) expeditions to Antarctica was accomplished by the
German NAZIs.

(From Above Top Secret)

The Neuschwabenland

In late 1938, just before WW2, Byrd visited Hamburg and was invited to participate in the
1938/1939 German "Neuschwabenland" Antarctic Expedition by the Nazis. Byrd had a great
knowledge of the Antarctic area, he had already been on several expeditions there
previously. However Byrd declined.

On 17 December 1938 the New Swabia Expedition left Hamburg for Antarctica aboard the
Schwabenland, a freighter capable of carrying and catapulting aircraft. The expedition had
33 members plus the Schwabenland's crew of 24. In January 1939 the ship arrived in an area
already claimed in 1938 by Norway as Dronning Maud Land and began charting the region. In
the following weeks 15 flights were made by the ship’s two Dornier Wal aircraft named

Passat and Boreas over an area reported as about 600,000 square kilometres (although others
have claimed the area flown over was half this size). More than 16,000 aerial photographs
were taken but these are still considered useless since they consist of more or less
endless white images with no indications of latitude or longitude. To assert Germany’s
claim to newly named Neu-Schwabenland three German flags were placed along the coast and 13
more were air-dropped further inland. Some accounts claim these markers were 1.5-metre (5
ft)-tall iron poles topped with a swastika.

This map appears to have been the flight patterns of the aircraft that surveyed the larger
area.

German expedition in 1938-39, according to this map, explored numerous areas in this sector
of the Antarctic. Red circles are flags (German) raised (three bases along coast), green
are flags dropped (from an aircraft). Wish one could see the original and translate the
terms.

It is claimed that the Nazis were setting up a secret base for advanced weapon and flight
experiments as well as a place to escape should the war not go to plan. This was also
detailed in newspapers of the time in the "Vierjahresplan" (The Four Year Plan) promoting
the Third Reich's plan to colonize the Neuschuabenland.

The Nazi expedition discovered several ice free regions with lakes and small signs of
vegetation. The expedition's geologists said that this phenomenon was due to hot springs.

This discovery led to Heinrich Himmler's effort to hatch a bold plan to build a permanent
base in Antarctica. That base was code named "Station 211".

NAZI BASE REPORTED IN ANTARCTIC AREA; Repair Shop at Deception Bay, 500 Miles From South
America, Is Blown Up BYRD MAKES DISCLOSURE Admiral at Boston Greets Ship Returning With
Members of United States Expedition

Special to THE NEW YORK TIMES.
May 06, 1941,
Section , Page 8, Column , words

BOSTON, May 5 -- The establishment of a German naval repair shop at Deception Bay, only 500
miles from South America, was revealed today as the motorship North Star docked at the army
base with thirty-six scientists and explorers home from Little America.

1942: in Poltava, a city in the Ukraine, during the summer, you may have seen a very
strange-looking military unit on the march, heading for a waiting passenger train. The unit
consisted of women, all of them blond and blue-eyed, between the ages of 17 and 24, tall
and slender, their sensational figures encased in striking sky-blue uniforms.

Each woman wore an Italian-style garrison cap, an A-line skirt with the hem below the knee,
and a form-fitting jacket with the insignia of the SS. You might have thought the SS had
recruited a platoon of high-class call girls, but the truth was far stranger than that. You
would have been looking at Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler's latest brainstorm - the
Antarktische Siedlungnsfrauen [Antarctic Settlement Women or ASF].

That story may have been verified in part by another story concerning one Irma Griese and
the special uniform worn by the ASF.

1943

"During this period, Himmler had a girl of the Antarktisches
Seidlungensfrauen (Translated: Antarctic Settlement Women or ASF)
dispatched to Auschwitz. Irma took a fancy to the sky-blue jacket and
skirt because "it matched her eyes. She carried her silver-handled whip in
one of her gleaming black boots." She simply transferred her Allegemeine-SS
runes and insignia to the ASF garb and made it her personal uniform."

Full story here. What a bitch.

1943

Admiral Karl Doenitz announced its (Station 211) completion in 1943 saying "The German submarine fleet is
proud of having built for the Fuhrer, in another part of the world, a Shangri-La on land,
an impregnable fortress."

1945 German U-boats surrender

U-530 surrendered at Mar del Plata, Argentina, on July 10, 1945
U-977 surrendered at Mar del Plata, Argentina, on August 17, 1945
U-465 was scuttled off the coast of Patagonia in August 1945
Another U-boat of unknown number surrendered to the Argentine Navy on June 10, 1945

These ports are relatively close to Antarctica.

1945- Enter the British: Britain's Secret War in Antarctica
Mentions the existence of "Polar Men"

"The summer before (1944), we were told, the original scientists and commandos had found an
"ancient tunnel". Under orders, the force went through the tunnel but only two returned
before the Antarctic winter set in. During the winter months, the two survivors made absurd
claims over the radio about "Polar Men, ancient tunnels and Nazis". Radio contact was
finally lost in July 1945, and ominously for our mission, going into the unknown, the last
broadcast brought us all further anxiety as we listened to the fear in the voice: "...the
Polar Men have found us!" was screamed before contact was lost."

Operation High Jump (and the alleged NAZI Bases)

"The finest accomplishment of Operation Highjump was its procurement of roughly 70,000
aerial photos of the coastline of Antarctica and chosen inshore regions. Initially prepared
for an 8 month undertaking Operation Highjump abruptly returned to the United States just
16 weeks after exploring Antarctica, with no rationale ever provided for the hasty return."

"While there is, yet, no definitive proof of a German UFO base on Antarctica, It is beyond
doubt that something extremely strange was occurring on, or nearby, the ice covered
continent."

December 30 1946 Crash of George-1 Recon Plane.

"Then, all of a sudden, it felt as if we had hit a slight bump. Frenchie immediately poured
on full power, starting to pull up and turn - and all I remember was the sensation of
floating! The next thing I knew, someone was shaking my shoulder. I looked up, from an
apparent crouched position in the snow, and saw our little flight engineer, Warr, looking
down at me with tears in his eyes."

"My first comment was "what happened?" His immediate reply, "Robbie, we're all screwed up"!
I had apparently been knocked out and, as things started to get a little clearer to me, I
looked around and it became obvious that Warr's comment was undoubtedly the understatement
of the year!"

"At this point I would like to relate exactly why we exploded. When we felt that bump, we
had torn a hole in the hull and the hull tank began leaking profusely. The 145-octane fuel
was ignited by the engine exhaust flames. BOOM! -- 1,345 gallons most likely created the
largest aircraft explosion ever, and how!"

"As a radar operator with vast polar experience, I couldn't believe this had happened. It
has now been determined that this "no returns" phenomenon was the first-ever "stealth
radar" happening
. The uncharted area from the coast to 800 feet in altitude where we hit
was such a gradual incline that there was nothing for the radar to see."

The aircraft "exploded" but it seems all the pieces came down together. Entire story here:

Did George-1 hit something, or did something hit George-1?

Upon return to the U.S., Admiral Byrd (allegedly) had the following to say:
"The U.S. must take protective action against enemy fighters who make departure from the
Polar regions of the Earth and moving at an incredible speed."

Vast deposits of coal? Does anyone know of any coal that has been exported from the
Antarctic?

This was most probably a misinterpretation of what appeared to be extremly black areas.

Actual movie documenting portions of the Highjump expedition. Interesting from the
standpoint of preparation. This was a well planned operation which had at its core, an
extensive photographic recon mission and perhaps something else given the composition of
assets taken there.

This may sound hard to believe, that the Nazis set up a base in the Antarctica, however
there is an interesting article in the New York Times from 1941.

NAZI BASE REPORTED IN ANTARCTIC AREA; Repair Shop at Deception Bay, 500 Miles From South
America, Is Blown Up. BYRD MAKES DISCLOSURE. Admiral at Boston Greets Ship Returning With
Members of United States Expedition

And then there was Operation Windmill http://www.south-pole.com/windmill.htm

And multiple Operation Deep Freezes:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Deep_Freeze

One of the more interesting observations concerning the area where the NAZIs first
established bases and dropped flags in areas they found is that there are now many
international bases in the same area.

Perhaps the most feaky, however, is the following separate item which seems to verify
portions of the British story above and the existence of some sort of base in the
Antarctic.

Have been studying McMurdo Base in the Antarctic and have noticed some odd items which I will share shortly.

As part of the approach, tried to locate any older images of the area and came across the following:

Anyone had service in the Air Force? If so, perhaps you can identify the item in these two images.

If it's a crashed aircraft, it looks rather pristine. It might have been some sort of tracked vehicle but seems rather large in comparison to other vehicles on the ground.

Perhaps it's a super secret 1957 wingless aircraft? What's your take?

Overview of area:

But, it didn't always look like this.

Circa mid 1950s, in what appears to be the terrain prior to its establishment. Notice what

appears to be there already.

Looking a little closer gives this:

It looks nothing like what this image proports to be the layout as constructed. And, the
dates on the images don't make sense.

Perhaps the following may shed some light on the matter.
(The following communique was allegedly sent late in December of 1958 from McMurdo
Station.)

Communication Telex:

From: [E.H.]

To: [Secretary, Armed Forces]

Sir,

It is with some consternation that I report to you that the predictions made by those to
whom you referred would appear, at this time, to be correct. While I am not an expert in
this field, you know who accompanied me on the real purpose of this jaunt of mine. He did
the required measurements, with some little help from myself and we were both astonished
at the results.

Ra says his baby is most definitely larger than expected. I dont know what it is you plan
to do about it but in our humble opinions, the records should appear wrong. We leave the
rest of this matter to you. As for us, I will continue my jaunt as previously advised to
you. I should have more in January, both of a safe public nature and some little more to
advise you. Our friend is returning to his previous position of tenure from where he can
be contacted more discreetly.

God speed.

E.H.

It appears from this communication, if authentic, something was found in the immediate
area.

So let's take a closer look around to see if there is anything odd here.

If that message is genuine then that could be a reference to the Lake Vostok anomaly. The Vostok wiki entry says it's existence was  first suspected after Russian surveys in 1959, so perhaps they were slightly ahead of them and didn't let on due to the Cold War.

Watcher: Happy hangover.  Rofl
Looking forward to your future posts. The document is freaky.
Some of it is in English but I'm interested in what the German text has to say.

Have identified a few basic areas (in and around Mcmurdo) that appear (to me) to be odd to anomalous.

Three (A, B, and C) are concerned with geological or artificial changes over the years.  We'll look at those in a later post.

The other four areas (1,2,3, and 4) are concerned with the possibility of hiding something
in plain sight. There are more items than just the four.

Starting with the most obvious first. Most of these can be verified by examining the
"Gigapan" image at the link posted earlier.

There are a total of at least four structures that appear to be metal oil tanks that don't
seem to function as tanks. How could they possibly when they have doors in them. Two of
them have doors the size of garage doors!

Perhaps there is a perfectly logical explanation, but it is difficult to believe that they were once used for the storage of gasoline/diesel/mogas, were cleaned and then are being used for some other purpose. Perhaps they were constructed over something that could be examined slowly over time.

Tank number 4

Tank number 2, another garage sized door.

Tank number 3

Tank number 1 - Air handler with door underneath.

Other odd items:

Two large generators, at least one running: Nothing around to power. Power distribution panel attached and seems to go into the ground.

Antenna? Odd arrangement of these things. Anyone recognize them? Wonder what their function is? These are also planted along a walkway in the back of hill "B".

Finally this:

A lab on station with somewhat large air handlers. I'm not an HVAC person but it seems to me that the air handlers on this building are way
too large for normal operation. It's almost as if the system was designed to circulate air for a much larger faciity, perhaps underground? Dunno

It gets even more interesting when one examines the changes in terrain over time.

Mellow
Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.<br />Aldous Huxley
Well actually, it would make sense for there to be underground areas. I was looking at the pictures and thinking that they had to be using underground areas simply because it would help with temperature regulation of the living quarters. The ground, after a certain distance down, stays pretty constant in temperature while outside can get alot colder. Having things on the surface allows for easy access, but it would be hell to keep the temperature up even with insulation. However, I get the feeling that there isnt anything officially below ground.

Those round things are likely antennas. Although I find it odd that they are kinda in a haphazard arrangment. My best guess is that they link to different spots kinda like how neighborhoods have an antenna for each house.

This is funny:

Thanks for the two links. The second one does indeed indicate that tanks are being used
for "storage". Interesting.

The first link also indicates very tight control over where one may go while on station.
Aside from the danger of unscheduled jaunts, it's not like you can walk around and explore
areas on your own. There are specific pathways one must use even when regular research
missions are scheduled.

Slidika:

I don't know what it is either. Have tried finding anything like it in military inventory,
but to no avail so far. The thing that strikes me is the almost identical similarity to an
aircraft fuselage w/o wings. Maybe it was a crashed aircraft that was dragged off of the
ice.

Wook:

Thanks for the info. Low Frequency Antennas huh? Could they be used with handheld units.
A lot of them in use with research teams that go out on special trips around the area.
These antenna are also placed along what appear to be marked trails.

Here are some odd looking terrain features.

There may be something underneath hill "C" AKA "Explosive storage". Not sure about the sequence
here, but it appears either to be exposing an area or covering up an area. My guess is
that it's being covered.

Ignore the green arrow, which was on the original image. The area where the yellow arrow
points seems to indicate some sort of structural area within the side of the hill.

Same area with what appears to be a cover over it now, along with part of the edge of the
covering visible.

And then there's this view. Parallel and tubular mesh over top of the same area.

As a matter of fact, this entire particular hill (as do other areas) seems to look
different in other images. Something being exposed or something being hidden?
Image crop from 1972:

Here's a 1974 view of the hill.

This one looks as if there is a lot of something in/on this particular hill.

Bottom line here is that there appears to be something just below the surface which may
indicate artificiality, other than what "we" have placed there over the years. Indeed, the
entire area seems to be one large and potential archeological site.
This may become more clear in another post.

I'm enjoying this thread.  I just don't have anything to add, other than I'm fascinated by the pics and the changes we can see.  So we find an Atlantean or Lemurian city, wow.  When are they going to tell us about it?  Or is it not a human outpost?  When are they going to tell us about it?

Keep up the good work, some of us are paying attention even if we aren't commenting much.
&quot;Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.&quot; --Aldous Huxley
I don't know how they would work it with slopes like that but is that not open cast coal extraction? There seem to be piles of it lying around and it would explain the explosives store.
I don't know why anyone would want to go all that way just for coal when there's plenty of it nearer it's point of consumption but searching for coal was one of the ostensible reasons for Admiral Byrd's expedition.
I find the 'image crop from 1972' the weirdest :- seen end-on those ridges look like folds with hollow ends. No apparent mining machinery though.
Thanks Arnik.

You asked "When are they going to tell us about it?  Or is it not a human outpost?"
Not sure many  (civilian types) may know of the existence of this stuff (assumming it's
real and not an illusion caused by random placement of snow which at this stage I doubt
for various reasons).

The entire area has been administered first by the Navy which eventually handed it off to
the National Science Foundation supported by the Ratheon Corp which takes care of all the
maintenance. That would be earth moving, running pipes, building maint etc. So when I see
an image like this which looks like piles of huge tarps, the question is what is being
covered? Particularly if it's in an area that has previously indicated possible subsurface items.

Ratheon also is heavily into hitech shit AKA Electromagnetic weapons like the Active
Denial System. From Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Denial_System

A sublink of the following implies a link back to Ratheon. Probably just a coincidence.

FEWC-the Navy's Fleet Electronic Warfare Center

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fleet_Elect...ter_(FEWC)

In one image, I found this. A trailer with what appears to be the letters FEWC beneath the
large letters which read "United States Antarctic Program". There is also another with the
letters FEMC (an arm of the Ratheon Polar Services Company) which stands for "Facilities
Engineering Maintenance and Construction".

In both images the van(s) appear to be "wired" via cable to one of the tanks being used
for "storage". Maybe it's just and electrical connection.

Bigfoot:

I think the "coal" thing was a bunch of crap. Something to placate the public as to why we
were going there with such a "Military" presence. But that's just my opinion. Look at the equipment taken on the "Expedition".
There appear to be a few fighter planes forward  (folded wings).

The explosives, to my knowledge, are/were used for cutting a channel through the ice. At
least, that's the only image where I've seen its use.

The image crop from 1972 is indeed weird, but not uncommon. Have seen other areas where
there is what appears to be a similar redish or brownish "covering" over items that appear
to be underneath.

One explanation comes to mind. It is possible that it is/was ancient vegetation that had
grown over whatever is below, was flash frozen ( not unlike the Siberian Mammoths and
vegetation more recently discovered, along glacier lines that are receeding.) Once exposed
to the air once again, it rots away exposing exactly what lies beneath. Just a thought.

There appear to be geometric patterns in the terrain, accentuated by the snow cover.
They can be seen as far back as the earliest images of the area. It appears highly complex.

Another effect appears to be strips covering the surface. This certainly could have been
caused by a dozer, but the incline on some of the hills IMO preclude that. But then, if
you're not going to be using the real estate, why bother to bull doz it all? Unless something exists you don't want seen.

This image looks like the area has been worked.

Same area but surface appears highly complex. Notice about center of the image, overlapping "chords" and additional "strips" above and right of it.

Another shot of the hill in last post but with what appears to be detail of other items on the surface. The entire area in the upper 2/3rds of the image is off limits. Wonder why. BTW, NASA runs the site in the upper left hand corner with the white dome.

Next one is probably an optical illusion.  Dunno

Arctic Microbe Hunt Could Aid Search for Alien Life

Microbes living at the edges of Arctic ice sheets could help researchers pinpoint evidence for similar microorganisms that may have evolved on Mars, Jupiter's moon Europa or Saturn's moon Enceladus, researchers say.

Scientists are investigating the receding edge of ice sheets on Earth to study the release of methane there.

Methane is a colorless, odorless, flammable gas. On Earth, some methane is produced abiotically — not by life — through reactions between water and rock, as well as through the breakdown of hydrocarbons by geological processes.

On the other hand, some methane comes directly or indirectly from methanogenic microbes, as a byproduct of fermentation of acetate — a derivative of vinegar — into methane and carbon dioxide.

Watcher,

Not a problem.

No apologies necessary. We all do what we can when we can get it done.

Thanks for your interest in doing it.

Steve,

Thanks for the offer.

Think I'll take you up on that. Having some speed issues uploading images to photobucket. Taking more time than I want to spend waiting.

Let me know details re: PM

I recommend the service called Dropbox. Easiest thing to do, you just drop stuff in a folder and away it goes. You can get 2gb free, any more than that you need a subscription.(or to recommend it to people and if they sign up you can get more free space)

Tarius - Thanks for the heads up.

Steve arranged for an FTP link which is incredibly much better and faster than what I had. Thanks Steve.

Well, this shit's going to blow your minds.

On the 15th of October 2005, something amazing happened at McMurdo.
Then again on the 23rd of October 2005.

At least, those are the dates of the following images you will be seeing.

Was it a natural occurrence? I don't know, but suspect (if real) that it wasn't, given the
wide spread results and apparent detail within the images.

You may or may not be able to verify this effect. Out of 30 times attempting to access the
date of this imagery on Google Earth's historical data base, have had only three times
where it was available. Maybe it's not supposed to be available. Maybe the Sysop was
performing server maintenance and dropped some security measures. Maybe someone wanted it
to get the info out.

Either this was simply, in the first case, the (a) Satellite capturing the exact instance
the Sun was shining at a precise angle thus reflecting the light off of objects that were
all wet, or .....?

Is it possible that while examining what appear to be sub-surface structures all over the
place, someone found a switch and turned a power grid on? That's what it reminds me of. In
some areas, the effect resembles fire. Or maybe something happened once some of this stuff
finally hit the air. Hard to say.

You be the judge.

In the final analysis though, what it does seem to show beyond a doubt, is that there are
artificial looking items all over the terrain which appear to either "glow" with some sort
of energy or in a later stage show some interesting detail. The initial "fire" effect
seems to be most evident around metal.

None of these images have been processed in any way. They are simple screen captures or
images saved using the GE save feature.

Take a look. There seems to have been two stages. One where the surface appears to be on
fire or energized. The other effect appears to show detail much deeper into the soil, as
if perhaps ice had melted exposing buried structures? None of this resembles normal human
type structures.

Overall view:

Then there are these images of the T-site, which is, again, off limits.

For comparison from 2011

Same basic area from 10/15/2005 (although it also says 1999?)

Don't know WTF this stuff is, but it doesn't seem to be natural.

The challenge going forward is two-fold.

One, have seen areas similar to this at other sites around Antarctica. This site appears to be the most clear for detail.

Two, if this "infrastructure" (be it deteriorated) is identified with what appear to be the Sand Wedge Polygons observed by Scientists, then other areas with such markings may have the same types of items underneath.

As an observation, for some reason, and as can be seen from the previous images, bright colors are present. Usually Reds, Greens, Black,

Just had to post this. (Not McMurdo area).

This appears to be a circular solid object. It is, according to the measurement tool on GE,  approx 50 feet in diameter.
Location Lat/Long in images. Not present in most recent images. Use Historical image for 2006.

Operation High Jump, 1946-1947, gathered some 70,000 aerial images of the Antarctic. They
are sequestered (offline) at Syracuse University, 222 Waverly Ave.
Syracuse, NY 13244

Unfortunately, one has to physically travel to said location to examine them. Too bad,

http://researchguides.library.syr.edu/co...sid=681201

The Map Room contains roughly 35,500 aerial photos from 40 flight lines for the AAW and
AAE portions of Operation Highjump. In total there were more than 70,000 aerial photos
from 60 flight lines taken during this expedition in Antarctica in 1946/47.

But there is a site that one can examine a portion of the images. Found this link on ATS
the other day.

Don't ask me why the Aussies have these, don't know.

About 8th line down, choose one entry from "Film/Digital Series", then bottom of page
"start search".
As always, when things start getting interesting, the images (although apparently there as
thumbs) are not freaking available.

Lots not available at all. Only check out the lines that have a little camera present.
That indicates images avail. No camera, no image.
Each image has lat/long data for comparison to current images available.

http://data.aad.gov.au/aadc/aerial/

There are a few that have squeaked by however. This one was showcased on ATS. Looks like a beam of light being shot into the air.

This is a map of the entire mission.

These are the flight lines within each individual major area. Blue is the actual real estate.

It is my opinion that these images show some rather interesting and bizarre items on the surface as of 1946-47 timeframe.

Any one out there who lives close to Syracuse University? It would be worth a trip to the Map Room to examine these images. Perhaps some selected ones could be scanned and posted. Any takers?

If there had been a previous civilization, it only makes sense that it would have had population centers on the coast.  So, we have a whole bunch of pictures of the coast looking for unusual formations to explore.

Still taking me time to get round to that translation, i´ve been off sick with health problems, have to see a cardiologist today, hopefully nothing too bad, blood pressure has been nuts again, and they have found something on my ecg that needs this guy to look at, the way they are prescribing me tablets at the moment i am going to rattle when shaken soon.
Don't be concerned about the translation.

Take care of yourself.

Hope everything's ok with the ecg.
